The HillJack Journey

Built From the Ground Up
HillJack's Garden Shack didn't begin with a business plan or a big storefront. It grew the same way most good things do around here - one project, one season, and a whole lot of dirt under our fingernails at a time.
Our roots are in HillJack Hideaway Farmstead, our family farm here in Middle Tennessee. What started with raising our own food, tending gardens, caring for livestock, and trying to make the most of the land gradually became something bigger.
We learned by doing.
We built greenhouses because we wanted to grow more and extend our seasons. We hauled gravel, mulch, rock, and soil because there was always another project that needed doing. We learned firsthand that a productive garden starts long before the first seed goes in the ground — with good soil, good materials, and the right tools for the job.
Before long, we realized our neighbors were looking for many of the same things.
And that's how HillJack's Garden Shack grew.
A Different Kind of Garden & Landscape Business
Today, HillJack's Garden Shack is a veteran-owned, family-operated business serving homeowners, gardeners, homesteaders, landscapers, and growers throughout Middle Tennessee.
We've kept our focus pretty simple:
Offer good products. Charge a fair price. Help people get their projects done.
Our landscape-material yard provides bulk gravel, decorative rock, mulch, garden soil, and other materials for everything from driveways and drainage projects to flower beds and backyard gardens.
Our greenhouse kits help gardeners, homesteaders, family farms, and market growers take control of their growing season with strong, practical structures designed for real-world use.
And our newest chapter, The Good Dirt Department™, takes us back to where good growing really begins — the soil. Through vermiculture, worm castings, casting tea, live composting worms, worm-farming supplies, and education, we're helping gardeners build healthier, more productive soil naturally.
Three parts of the business.
One common purpose:
Helping folks grow, build, and make something better.
Why "HillJack"?
Because we've never had much interest in pretending to be something we're not.
We're a small family business. We work with our hands. We get dirty. We make mistakes, learn from them, and usually figure out a better way the next time.
Around here, you'll find gravel dust on the boots, dirt under the fingernails, greenhouse projects underway, worms turning yesterday's scraps into tomorrow's soil, and probably another idea being sketched out somewhere before the last one is finished.
That's HillJack's.
We're serious about what we sell without taking ourselves too seriously.
We believe you shouldn't need to be a professional landscaper to walk into a material yard and get good help. You shouldn't need a commercial farm to justify owning a good greenhouse. And you shouldn't need a degree in soil science to start improving the ground beneath your feet.
Sometimes you just need somebody willing to answer the question, help you figure out how much you need, and point you in the right direction.
Veteran Owned. Family Operated. Tennessee Grown.
After 24 years of service in the U.S. Army, the values of hard work, integrity, service, and doing what you say you're going to do didn't disappear when the uniform came off.
They became part of how we operate HillJack's.
We're proud to be veteran owned. We're proud to be family operated. And we're proud to call Middle Tennessee home.
We're also people of faith, and we believe we've been blessed with an opportunity to build something that serves our family while also serving the community around us.
We don't take that lightly.
We're Just Getting Started
HillJack's Garden Shack has changed quite a bit from where it began — and we expect it'll keep changing.
There will always be another project to tackle, another crop to grow, another product to improve, and probably another pile of dirt showing up somewhere.
But the foundation isn't changing.
Good materials. Practical solutions. Fair prices. Honest service.
Whether you're fixing a driveway, building a flower bed, putting up the greenhouse you've wanted for years, growing food for your family, or discovering just how much a bunch of little red worms can do for your soil, we're glad you're here.
Welcome to HillJack's Garden Shack.
